In the second week of virtual environments we were set a task to go explore second life more and to even talk to other people in different places. It’s quite daunting talking to a complete stranger online but exciting at the same time because you’ll never know who you’ll meet. So I set off to different places to meet new people. I had a general chat with people mainly on their experience of second life. I found out some interesting places to visit one being Miami beach. However, I did come across some very strange, interesting people which was okay… but I didn’t feel comfortable so I took myself out of the situation just for my own sake. The great thing is that I didn’t use my actual name for my avatar so I’m pretty sure I am completely safe. Despite all this, I did in fact, enjoy seeing new places and new avatars and finding out their reasons for being on second life and their experiences. Again, this task took me out of my comfort zone which is what I really like about this module, I am not only learning new things but I’m growing as a person.
One of my strange encounters (above), being asked to be someone’s pet. It is strange but funny at the same time. I had a good laugh after this second life exploration. There really is very interesting people out there lol. But overall, people were very nice and welcoming.
